Netgear Nighthawk M1 MR1100 Test

TEST: Do you want Wi-Fi in your car, bag or in the hotel room so check out the Netgear Nighthawk M1. It is a good device for fast internet without cables. If you want “portable battery-powered mobile broadband”, take this into account.
Compared with a fixed installation of mobile broadband, the Netgear Nighthawk M1 is far more an all-round product. For example, you can put a SIM card and bring this mobile router on the journey. You will have mobile Internet everywhere you go..
Data Transfer
After testing we got very nice speeds from this M1 router. At indoors it could deliver up to 70-80 mbit / s download and about 60 mbit / s upload. In generally, the speed depends on many factors. Among other things, the damping of the signal from windows, buildings and other obstacles. You are also limited by the load on the mobile masts, which are used by the router.

The Nighthawk M1 supports 4x Carrier Aggregation (and 4 × 4 MIMO). It can open more data streams to the mobile end, and combine it to one connection (if the provider supports it). This is a clear advantage.
Even though the router is very compact, there is still room for 2x TS-9 connectors. These are used if an external antenna is to be connected (optional). It’s quite impressive that this is also an option.
Also connect via Ethernet cable
Computers or smart devices can be connected via Wi-Fi connection (2.4 or 5 GHz), beside, there is also an Ethernet port behind the router so you can use a wired connection. When running wirelessly (Wi-Fi), up to 20 Wi-Fi devices can be connected at the same time.
Compared to fixed-mounted mobile broadband, the Nighthawk M1 is slower, but it is also not intended as a fixed network connection at home.

If you’re nervous about clearing your data packet, data offloading is an option. When the router has known Wi-Fi network within range, it automatically connects to this. Leave the Wi-Fi zone switched back to the mobile connection.
Display on the router
The detailed thing is displayed on the screen of the M1 router. From the screen you can view the current status of connections, batteries, connected devices, etc.. You can also see the name of the network and password to use. If you don’t want to show this, you could disable the display in the settings.
If you need to share content from a USB key on the network, it can be connected to either a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 (Type C) port on the back of the router. The USB part is used via a browser interface on the computer. The files can also be viewed via the Netgear app for Android and iPhone.
Immediately it does not seem like a special obvious function. At any rate, I could not make it appear as a network drive on my PC.
The router has a wide range of features built-in, so you can use it in almost every connection. The web interface or app is very simple and very user-friendly, though it requires basic knowledge about networks and routers.
You either run battery operation with Nighthawk M1 or connect a solid power supply. Netgear promises up to 10 hours of operation on one charge.
Pros and cons
Advantage
* Easy installation and clear display
* Fast upload and download speeds with low response times
* Supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz and Carrier Aggregation
* Possibility of connecting external antennas
* Long battery life
Disadvantages
* High price
* Occasionally mobile data noise on nearby speakers
* USB interface to work is robust
Conclusion
The Netgear Nighthawk M1 delivers remarkable performance on the mobile network. If you want to stay connected on the go, there is simply no better way. It is definitely a top grade product. It delivers everything you expect plus a little extra. The most negative thing I can find is the price. Speaking of the price, another 1Gbps Huawei E5788u-96a is more expensive.

Huawei B525s vs B529 LTE Cube

Huawei B529 (HomeNet Box) and Huawei B525 are two available LTE mobile routers on T-mobile site. As the model number are so close, many T-mobile users are really confused about which one to choose, B529 or B525, like the following:
I will take internet from T-mobile and I have two HUAWEI B525 and HUAWEI B529 routers to choose from. For B525 I have to pay PLN 49 for the start, and for B529 199. Is there any point in taking the more expensive one? Generally, 3 devices (2 computers and a tablet) will be connected to the router. I care about low pings because sometimes it happens to me to play some games -- Count Dracula
T-Mobile which router? B525 or B529?
Hi, what router should I choose from a home network of 60MB from tmobile? Which one will be better? In the attachment information about the nearest BTS. I do not know about this, therefore, particulars. -- NDhc
Both as a Huawei router, there are similarity for Huawei B525 and B529 router. Both of them are LTE CAT6 router, which means the download speed could up to 300Mbps. At the aspect of difference, there are many. Let’s check out the following.
Appearance
Dimensioned as 120 × 120 × 127 mm, the Huawei B529 is more like a LTE Cube, like Huawei E5180 and B618 cube. At the front side, there are 4 indicators and one power button. After powering on, you could know about the status of your router by view the color of the indicators (Mode, LAN, Wi-Fi, and power). At the back side, there are two slots for external antenna, a LAN port, a roam button, and a port for power adapter.

Sized 163 mm x 52 mm x 226 mm, B525 is more like a normal home router with more LAN ports and telephone port. It is an upgrade version of Huawei B315, there are 5 indicators at the front side (power, mode, Wi-Fi, LAN and signal). On the back, there are 4 RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet ports, one RJ11 phone port, one USB port and two external antennas slots.

Frequencies
The available model for B529 is B529s-23a which supports LTE bands 1/3/7/8/20/32/38 which is the same as Huawei B525s-23a. Besides, there is also B525s-65a for B525 CPE modem. The 65a version supports many bands, like LTE bands 1/3/5/7/8/19/20/2//28/32/38/40/41. Thus, the B525s-65a version is more recommended.
Battery
As a 4G mobile router, the Huawei B529s-23a includes a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery which could use for more than one hour when there are no power supply. This may be the main difference between the B525. And it is the rarest LTE cube with battery.
LAN Ports
As a normal wireless router, B525 has 4 LAN, but only 1 for B529, so B525 is more suitable for small office usage. And there is also a USB port for printer or storage devices. It is more convenient for printing or data sharing between devices.
So, Huawei B525 or Huawei B529?
Now come back to the beginning question for many users, which one should choose. Though they are both 300Mbps LTE router, if the price is the same, the B525 is better for the sake of more LTE bands. If you want to used in more countries or want to use it for small office, B525s-65a huawei is recommended. If you want a battery based mobile router, then choose the B529.

Antenna Using Tips
About Mounting: To be most effective, the external antenna (s) should be mounted where the cellular signal is best. This is usually near a window or outside wall - outdoors, away from under construction is almost always better.
About cable length: It is recommended that you do not choose cable length longer than 10meters, as the longer the cable, the weaker the signal would increase.
